The Gods rebellion Hack Tools
The Gods rebellion Hack Tools
When it comes to character action games on iOS, there seems to be a perpetual battle between preserving the fast-paced combo-driven combat of the sub-genre with touch controls that typically arent conducive to the experience at hand. Unfortunately, Chillingos The Gods: Rebellion [$0.99] isnt going to resolve that battle anytime soon. While the game looks great, offers a load of content and preserves that fast-paced feeling of character action titles, the controls leave a lot to be desired, keeping that schism of controls vs gameplay alive and well.
The first thing youll notice when firing up Rebellion are its impressive visuals. Utilizing the Unreal Engine, Rebellion features detailed (and occasionally moving) backdrops, nicely done combat animations and effects and a stable, fast framerate. While character models themselves dont particularly standout, I was impressed with the game as a whole.

Beats Music subscription based online music streaming service launched
The newly released Beats Music app, available on the iTunes App Store, is something on the lines of the already available Google Play Music, Spotify and Rdio. The Android app will also be released soon.
The big question to be asked is, with a plethora of online music streaming options available, why did Beats launch its own, and how does Beats Music stand out?
The answer, according to Beats, lies in the fact that there are plenty of people who havent jumped onto the subscription bandwagon yet. Also, after working with the likes of Trent Reznor and MOG (which will be shutting down on April 15), it feels that it has a lot more to offer. The Beats Music software will revolve around creating music streaming based on the user experience, and also personal and preferred choices of music. The answer to whether it will work will have to be seen.
The features that are offered with Beats Music are worth taking a note of. There are over 20 million songs available from the various music genres. A user also has the option of listening to a song instantly, or saving it and listening to it offline. Unsure users can turn to Beats Music to help create the right playlists and make the right choices. The Just for You feature has a series of genres and artistes hand-picked, or curated for the user by a team of Beats Music curators.
Depending upon the mood of a person, there is a feature that allows a user to change the sentence or playlist to match how he or she is feeling. That in turn helps generate a personalised playlist. Another feature, Highlights, allows a user to check the latest happenings in the world of music. An unsure user can also use Find It to reach the perfect playlist based on genre and the kind of activity being done. Share allows a user to share the music on Beats Music as well as social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. This could be a handy feature for the new streaming service.
Beats Music is a subscription-based service available for $9.99 (roughly Rs. 650) a month on the iTunes App Store, and is initially free for seven days - so users can try it.
In addition, there is a spark of joy for users of the Windows Phones. Beats has released Beats Yo! for the platform, a drum computer simulation with 16 sample pads available for free. The features that it offers are also pretty interesting too. Four-track recording, cutting and arranging recorded four-bar loops and the ability to save and load them, makes an entry.
Amongst other features, Beats Yo! offers adjustable tempo, a metronome to keep time and a real-time check to fix any missed beats. Also it gives a shot in the arm to Windows Phones, apps which has still to lure the top developers in the industry to create apps for its devices. The WAV files that will be eventually stored on the device can be easily transferred via the MusicBeats Yo folder that is created within the Windows phones flash storage.
The Beats Yo! drum kit is free for download and use. However, throwing in a bit of the commercial aspect has Beats Yo! offering in-app purchases where additional drum-kits can be bought. Of course, if one chooses not to purchase, they are left with just one drum-kit (the original free downloaded one). The app is only compatible with Windows Phone 8 devices as of now

Renault to develop electric cars for Israel

Renault-Nissan Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn said the cars, with a range of about 100 km in city driving and up to 160 km on the highway, will accelerate from zero to 100 kph in 13 seconds and have a top speed of 110 kph -- similar to many gasoline-powered cars.
Ghosn said a key reason why the company chose Israel to launch the project is because 90% of Israelis drive less than 70 km a day and all major urban centers are within 150 km of each other. For Israel the cars would mean less dependency on oil imports, mostly coming from Russia.
The cars, to be made in Europe, will run on a battery developed by Nissan and Japans and will be available in 2011. A prototype is already on the road in Israel and various models will be sold by Renault and Nissan.
"It will be the most environmentally friendly mass-produced car on the market," Ghosn said at a Fuel Free Transportation ceremony at the office of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, adding the main appeal of the cars is that they were as "normal as possible" while operating quietly.
He said the car would cost the same or less than comparable gasoline engine autos and would have a lifetime warranty.
Ghosn said Renault-Nissan will also market the cars in yet to be determined European countries and Asia and later to the United States.
"We expect this car to be successful," Ghosn told reporters. "We want to make sure we mass market 10,000 to 20,000 cars a year in Israel ... We are determined to make it a success."
ENERGY SUBSCRIPTIONS
Israels government will offer tax incentives on the cars and Project Better Place, a venture-backed company, will set up a recharging grid using electricity from renewable sources.
"The state of Israel has set itself the goal of making our lives here better and cleaner, with less dependence on gasoline and petroleum," Olmert said. "By the end of the next decade, we will be completely free of petroleum and its by-products as the fuel which powers transportation in Israel."
Project Better Place is headed by former SAP executive Shai Agassi, who said Israels grid would be powered by 200 megawatts generated by wind and solar power sources.
"For the first time in history, all the conditions necessary for electric vehicles to be successfully mass-marketed will be brought together in a partnership between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Project Better Place in Israel," the two sides said in a statement.
Consumers will buy their car and subscribe to an energy supply, including the use of the battery, on the basis of kilometers driven, similar to the way mobile phones are sold.
Israeli President Shimon Peres said he wanted Israel to push forward with the electric car plan because oil has become the "greatest polluter of our age and the greatest financier of terrorism."
California-based Project Better Place said it will set up a network of 500,000 charging points in Israel. The cars computer will indicate when recharging is needed and the nearest charging point.
The initial $200 million investment in Project Better Place is led by holding company Israel Corp and includes investment bank Morgan Stanley, venture capital firm Vantage Point and a group of private investors.
Israel Corp, which will invest $100 million, said it had signed agreements with the other investors. The Ofer family, which controls Israel Corp, will invest $30 million through a private firm while the other investors will put in $70 million.

Google Lively A Social 3 D virtual world unveils with video

Unlike popular virtual worlds such as Second Life, Lively doesnt require you to download new software. All you need is a browser plug-in. The service is also more distributed than Second Life: Its rooms will live on Web pages on Facebook and other sites, so you might stumble across them when browsing the Internet. Rooms can be private spaces, with entry by invitation only, or open-topic rooms, where you can meet people interested in discussing topics you love, like Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston or Google. It also ties into other Google services. You can stream YouTube videos into your virtual living room or post your Picasa pictures on your walls.

Lively looks hip, too. Its kind of a combination between anime and a Disney movie, with wide-eyed avatars and colorful, angular scenery. Chat bubbles are brightly colored and attached to avatars with long stems.
All of which leads to the big question: Is Lively going to be the site that finally brings virtual worlds into the mainstream? Probably, said Chris Sherman, executive director of Virtual Worlds Management, an industry trade group. "With a player like Google jumping into this, youre going to see a lot more people understand this space and pay attention to it," he said.

Hands on with Microsoft Office Live Workspace

The obvious move would be to offer free, ad-supported, feature-limited online versions of Offices flagship applications designed to compete head-on with Googles and Zohos word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs. Microsofts free Office Live Workspace, however, takes a different tack by providing private and public shared online file areas, or workspaces, that are tightly linked to Offices desktop applications via a downloadable plug-in.
Though it lacks advanced workflow, communications, and project management features, Office Live Workspace has more in common with collaborative Web services like Basecamp and Central Desktop than it does with Googles or Zohos online suites. Currently ad-free, Microsoft says the site may eventually include advertising.

Office Live Workspace supports Excel files, too, though none of the templates available when we reviewed the site were Excel files. On the other hand, the service doesnt support Microsofts Access database format, which is too bad--Access users looking to delegate data entry and to simplify reporting tasks might benefit greatly from an online database-sharing arrangement.
You can view documents in the three supported Office file types online, but to edit the files, you must download and open them in your local copy of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, or in a compatible suite such as OpenOffice.org, and then reupload them when youre done editing.
Emulating a handy feature pioneered by Zoho Office, the service also lets you open, edit, and save files directly from your Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007 applications to your online folders, using a downloadable toolbar plug-in. Besides working in the supported Office file types, you can create, view, and edit several other types of files--Events, Contacts, Task Lists, and Notes--via the Web interface, and sync these with the corresponding information types stored in your local copy of Microsoft Outlook. The site lets you create one other file type--a spreadsheet-like list--and export it to Excel format if you wish. You can upload other file types, too. The site simply displays an error message if you try to view or edit unsupported file formats.

Office Live Workspace displays a log of file creation, editing, and deletion activity, and the administrator can retrieve an earlier version of a file if an editing snafu occurs. If you add the SharedView utility, a small download thats still in beta, you can share your screen and its applications with other workspace users--a feature that several other collaboration services offer as well. Only one user at a time can control and edit a document via SharedView, however. If you need tighter controls over file access, or other workflow tools like e-mail reminders of project milestones and due dates, choose a more powerful collaboration service.
Youll also want to look elsewhere if your projects involve lots of large files. While other online storage services--including Google, Zoho, and Microsofts own Windows Live Spaces--offer gigabytes of free storage, Office Live Workspace gives you just 500MB, with individual file size limited to 25MB. But if you and a few of your coworkers or family members want to collaborate in a lightweight fashion using Microsoft Office apps, Microsofts unique response to Web-hosted applications could be a free and easy no-brainer.

HTC Magic

You can simply drag up the menu from the bottom, instead of via the menu button below the touchscreen, as you would expect at first. This menu button opens a new menu for every application, for example; the browser allows you to either open or refresh an Internet page, and Google Maps lets you change the map mode or search for a location. The menus structure is quite easy, although the combination with the menu button does require some practice.
It seems not everything is stored in the same way, however it would not call it complicated. Its just a little bit different than what we are used to luckily enough, however, it is stable and fast. Everything runs smoothly and upon opening the menu, you will find a large number of icons. In addition to the standard functions, such as settings and gallery, also Google applications such as Google Maps, Google Talk, Gmail and YouTube can be found.

iPhone shortage supply woes or new model

Bernstein Research said its iPhone supply checks showed that the multifunction device appeared to be out of stock at Apples U.S. stores and its online store, which could lead to lost sales of up to 40,000 units a week in the event of a prolonged shortage.
Sacconaghi said the impact so far was limited, estimating the average Apple store was out of stock for only a few days during the March quarter, and that supplies appeared to be fine at stores of wireless carrier partner AT&T Inc.
"In our view, the most likely explanation for this unusual situation is a production shortfall, possibly due to a component shortage," analyst Toni Sacconaghi wrote in a note.
Apple declined to confirm if there was an iPhone shortage, but spokesman Steve Dowling said: "We are working to replenish iPhone supplies as quickly as we can and our stores continue to receive shipments almost every day."
Recent reports of iPhone shortages have fueled speculation that Apple is readying a new version of the device that will run on faster 3G wireless networks.
Apple could introduce a new iPhone in June or July, about three months earlier than previously expected, said American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu, citing checks with unidentified supply chain sources.
"What gives us higher conviction in the accelerated timetable is that iPhone inventory levels appear fairly lean, which is consistent with Apples tendency to wind down inventory ahead of an update," Wu wrote in a note.
Wu forecast Apple would sell 11 million phones by the end of 2008, 10% more than the companys stated goal, thanks to a new model, wider adoption among businesses, and price cuts.
Apple shares fell 1.4% to $147.38 in early afternoon trading on Nasdaq. The stock is up 19% over the past month but is still nearly 25% below its level three months ago amid concerns that a slowing economy will dampen consumer spending.

Motorola XOOM Snap Review
XOOM seen with the original Folio Case |
To me, there is nothing exciting about XOOM since I already had experienced the Android Honeycomb on the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer (TF101). The Motorola XOOM runs on stock Android 3.0 firmware, which makes it rather uninteresting as compared to the Transformer. There arent any extra widgets or pre-installed entertaining apps or multimedia content like what ASUS provided. But heres what I gathered from my snappy hands-on experience (less than 3 man hours to be exact).
Seeing double? The left is a life-sized brochure. |
Screen - unfortunately, Dad has already applied a matt screen protector, which instantly makes the screen less appealing compared to the Transformer. I wont go into further discussion, since comparison could be deemed unfair. If thats any lesson learnt, it would be this: applying a screen protector would reduce the visual quality. I hope I am right, or else that would mean the XOOM is indeed having a less-stellar display.
Hardware buttons - XOOM has a large power button behind the left speaker which is within easy reach of the left hand finger. Kudos to that for ergonomic design. In contrast, the volume buttons are miserable in size, and I find it hard to press them easily. A microSD and/or SIM compartment on the top is covered by a cap, which reveals a bit of the circuit board. At the bottom, there is the micro-USB port. micro-HDMI port, and charger ports. The camera flash is a nice-to-have but I doubt anyone would be seriously using a tablet for flash photography.
Yes, I used a XOOM brochure for comparison, but hey thats to scale. |
Size - XOOM is the smallest 10.1" tablet in the market, thanks to a thinner bezel. Its even smaller than the iPad even with a larger screen.
Boasting "Dual Core Technology". Eh... which Honeycomb tablet doesnt have it? |
Interface - it runs on stock Android firmware, so nothing special compared to the ASUS Transformer. Gotta go to the Android Market to download apps before you can enjoy the tablet, though there arent many apps that are optimised for Android tablets.I did install Zinio as they are offering free magazine downloads for a limited time. Strange though, the number of free magazines are different from the Transformer. Was the Zinio offering differentiated by tablet brands?
Zinio on XOOM gives me 3 free publications, compared to dozens on the Transformer |
Usage experience does not deviate much from Transformer: the occasional crash warning, the jittery video playback on some encoding formats. Most of the times, the tablet runs smoothly as expected. I do prefer the size of the XOOM compared to the Transformer.
My thoughts - The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is definitely more useful for me, because it comes with a modular keyboard dock and pre-installed ASUS content. XOOM costs S$100 more: you lose the dock but gain 32GB built-in storage memory and smaller footprint.
I returned the XOOM to my Dad the following day so that he can enjoy the gadget. Unfortunately he does not have Wi-Fi at home, which is a huge pity, for the Internet is the ultimate gateway to the tablet experience.
Chester owns the Transformer tablet and is also a fan of TRANSFORMERS toyline. Follow him at http://www.twitter.com/musicdiary/ as he is scheduled for some more gadgets review courtesy of xinmsn.

Head of Nokia US PureView coming to Nokia Lumia phones
Another Nokia executive is teasing the addition of PureView technology to the Finnish companys Lumia line of phones and yet again there are no commitments when it comes to dates when such a device might get announced.
Chris Webber, President of Nokia USA and Head of Marketing for North America, talked about the future of Nokia and their plans to expand their market share. PureView is part of the plan and Nokia is working closely with Microsoft to make sure that the technologyworks exactly right (we approve as long as the phones dont look like this).
Webber once again points out its not about the 41MP that was arguably the biggest attention grabber, but its the oversampling technology instead. This lends some credence that there will be PureView cameras with a lower raw resolution (which would reduce the maximum lossless zoom, but the other advantages of the technology shouldnt be affected).
You can watch the 20+ minute interview with Webber here - he talks about PureView a little after 3 minutes in.
You might want to listen to the rest of the interview too, he talks about how the market has moved to a battle of ecosystems instead of battle of individual devices and how Windows 8, Xbox and otherMicrosoft properties are beneficial for Nokias Windows-centric strategy.

New updates to Google com for the iPhone
At Google, improving the speed of our applications and user experience is a top priority. The new Google.com for the iPhone browser now loads twice as fast as before -- and not just over 3G or Wi-Fi but also EDGE. Weve optimized the page for fast searching, while still providing easy access to other Google applications including Gmail, Calendar, Reader, and many others under the More tab. We also improved the user interface so that theres more room on the page for search results. Take a look at the screen shot below to see how weve eliminated wasted space.

Finally, you can now access any of the application tabs directly by adding them to your iPhone Home Screen. Weve created cool new icons for all the applications. Simply go to www.google.com in your browser, tap on any of the application tabs, click the "+" button, and select "Add to Home Screen." The icons will appear on your iPhone Home Screen allowing you to go directly to the application with a tap of your finger. Collect the whole set!

Nokia 6760 Slide QWERTY phone hadding to Europe

Nokia 6760 Slide QWERTY phone will be getting Europe in the Autumn known simply as the 6760 Slide when it is released and if the early word is correct, it will have a few feature tweaks too.
Nokia 6760 Slide QWERTY phone will be getting Europe in the Autumn with clever messaging phone, suited to those who live for their social networks and love sending SMS and email on the move. Connection to your Exchange server, most email services and online networks such as Twitter and Facebook plus Google Talk and Windows Live IM systems, provides the 6760 with more than enough appeal on the software side and although criticised for its unconventional looks, we like the fact the S60-powered device doesn’t conform.
Nokia 6760 Slide QWERTY phone will be getting Europe in the Autumn On the hardware side, the screen is a 2.4? QVGA item which works in both landscape and portrait, Assisted GPS is built in and on the rear of the phone you’ll find a 3.2 megapixel camera. If this information is correct, then it trumps the Surge’s 2 megapixel camera. Oddly, nothing is mentioned about 3G or Wi-Fi, however if Nokia want the 6760 to be taken seriously, we can’t see both of these being omitted.
Nokia 6760 Slide QWERTY phone will be getting Europe in the Autumn will be available in black, red and white, and we should hear a solid release date soon.
