Nokia N9 to come at the MWC with a 1 2 GHz CPU 12 MP camera

With the MWC fast approaching, rumors about the MeeGo-running Nokia N9 are starting to intensify again. If the Finnish source is to be trusted one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones of this year will make its debut at the congress in less than a month.
There will also be some serious hardware under the hood. Apparently the Nokia N9 will be the first Nokia smartphone to pack a 1.2 GHz CPU. The machine-translated source mentions something about it being an Intel Atom, but we cant imagine a way of stuffing the good old x86 Atom in a smarphone. Instead our guess is the N9 is based on the Intel Moorestown platform, which is essentially a smartphone SoC (system-on-a-chip) with an Intel Atom core as its heart.
Next, the Nokia N9 is supposed to have the same 12 megapiexel camera as the N8. Considering the qualities of the large-sensor unit inside the Nokia Symbian^3 flagship, thats just excellent news for all cameraphone lovers. Top of the line smarphones havent been doing too great in the camera department recently, so the N9 might be the first true all in one device.
The final exciting Nokia N9 rumor is its LTE connectivity. Even the source claims that this isnt confirmed yet so you need to take this with an extra pinch of salt.
Theres less than four weeks remaining until the MWC kicks off so well find if the rest of it is true pretty soon. Heres hoping that the whole list gets confirmed!

Review Skullcandy 50 50 In ear headphones Black

There comes a time that no matter how much you try to fix your headphones like that your cable just got too short that you will have to buy a new one. I picked up the Skullcandy 50/50 for its price and my confidence with the Skullcandy product. I picked up the black color, but the Skullcandy 50/50 comes in many variety of colors. Lets dive in to see if this pair can last another year!

First Impression:
Right out of the package, you get a free metal case to store your headphones - it is a simple casing, just to make sure your headphones will not tangle. The Skullcandy 50/50 features a cool looking ear-bud with the logo in-printed all over the earpiece/headphones. It has volume/music controls on the left piece and the entire cable is lined using a flat cable to ensure that the cable will not get unintentionally tangled. Although it does come with multiple different color, most of the design features just 1 main color and an accent - I wasnt super impressed by the design, but still attracted by the price. Lets see if the Skullcandy 50/50 can be a trusted pair to keep in your pocket.

Test Drive:
The Skullcandy 50/50 volume control was designed for both Android and iOS, it features the basic function of controlling your music (play, pause, next song). Im really happy with how it turned out because it responds pretty well to my phone; sadly, volume control does not work with Android phones by default. The Skullcandy 50/50 is a mid tier headphone, it offers crisp sound - but the bass is relatively weak; that is not to say that the headphones is anywhere close to low quality. The headphones cables really favors those who tends to just drop their pair in their bag - although some light tangling still occurred, its not at the point where it gets really annoying for you to untangle them.

Like most of the headphones that has a built-in control, I seem to have problems with the microphone whenever I tried to use them for calling purposes.

Opinion:
There is really not much to say about the SkullCandy 50/50 - this pair is definitely marketed for day to day use. Fully responsive volume control, tangle resistant cables and enjoyable sounds definitely put this pair to have for emergencies. Although it comes with a metal case for carrying, its nothing special and most people would probably stopped trying to use them after a week or so. I always enjoy SkullCandy warranty offer that puts costumer at ease whenever their headphones gets broken. With the price tag of $49.99, you definitely get a comfortable pair of headphones that would spice up your walk to class.

T Mobile Wants To Change The Wireless Industry By Forcing Other Carriers To Change With It

t-mobile-contract-freedom

T-Mobile may have never intended to force the other carriers to play catch up, and modify their strategies for the next evolution of their wireless plans and offerings when it first unveiled and starting rolling out it’s “UN-Carrier” wireless rate plans to consumers. However, that is exactly what’s happening. UN-Carrier started back in March of last year, and has since been through 4 phases (Phase 4 started on Wednesday which offers customers the option of having T-Mobile pay their current carriers ETF’s so they can switch providers), and T-Mobile continues to evolve their ideas and strategies to compete in the wireless industry and accomplish their mission of making waves while making things all about the consumer.

The plan in detail, will allow T-Mobile to pay for customers ETF’s (up to $350 per line) while also paying up to $300 for old phones from the carrier that said customers are leaving. All of this money goes back to the customer in the form of a prepaid mastercard, (we’d assume much like a rebate) and to round it all out T-Mobile will also offer to pay the customers final bills. That’s some strategy that Big Magenta has come up with to gain subscribers and win over customers. These major changes from T-Mobile have caused Verizon, At&t, and Sprint to alter their own strategies in an attempt to compete with what T-Mobile is doing. This all ends up as a win for the customer in the long run, because they now more than ever have the power of choice. Previous to T-Mobile’s 4th phase of the “Un-Carrier” strategy, customers had to pay their own final bills and ETF’s if they wanted to switch carriers. Even if it monetarily made sense to pay all these fees in the long run, customers were still hesitant to switch for the sheer fact that they had to pay anything at all.

Thanks to John Legere and T-Mobile, that is no longer an issue and the nation’s Fourth largest wireless carrier might be right on track to move out of fourth place. Verizon, At&t, and Sprint will have to start coming with something big if they don’t want T-Mobile to steal away any more of their business. T-Mobile may have lost 32,000 customers in the past quarter, but they also gained 1.6 million according to a study done by Baird Equity, that also states “more potential switchers are considering T-Mobile than any other wireless company”. Those numbers add up and show that T-Mobiles strategies are working. Now all T-Mobile has to do is work on their network and they’ll truly be a force to be reckoned with.

Galaxy S5 metal frame leaks suggest sturdier smartphone bigger screen

Samsung might finally add metal to the Galaxy S line

Galaxy S5 metal frame leaks suggest sturdier smartphone, bigger screen

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has been leaked so often and regularly at this point that weve already developed a pretty good idea of what its going to look like on the outside.
Now new photos have surfaced purportedly showing what the next Galaxy is rocking on the inside.
The latest leaks comes by way of Nowhereelse.fr. The French tech site alleges the Galaxy S5 will come with a metal interior frame for some much needed rigidity after a line of Samsung phones classically known for their chintzy, all-plastic bodies.

Rockin body

Based on the frames measurements - 143.8mm (5.6 inches) tall and 72.2mm (2.8 inches) wide - the new Galaxy S5 could very well feature a larger screen than the Galaxy S4s 5-inch display.
Compared to the Galaxy S4s dimensions, 136.6 x 69.8mm (5.38 x 2.75 inches), the new metal frame is slightly longer. This could mean the Galaxy S5 will have a widescreen aspect ratio display.
The images of this completely straight metal frame dont match up with our renderings of a bending Galaxy S5, but it gels with our theory about it having metal accents.

What we know so far

Manga BDR iPad App Review

Paper books are soo last year, but what about those fun to read mangas? Sure we can find them online, but were not connected to the internet 24/7. We can download them, but its such a hassle to put it in your iPad, and worse it wont be sorted by the tittle! Fear not, the Manga BDR is here; its purpose? to put manga reading literally on your finger tips! This app does not have its own manga website, which means you can obtain your favorite type of read at the comfort of your own favorite website. With an easy to use interface, great storage system and the ability to read it offline gives this app a thumbs up for those manga lovers.

Interface:
The interface for this app is a bit unique. As usual the tutorials is always recommended, although the app is very easy to use, to download a new manga gets a bit tricky at first. When you open the app, there are only a few buttons up on the top of the screen and on the bottom of the screen.

The top of the screen:
  • Menu; where you access your manga collection and download new mangas

  • Slider; tracks your progress in your read

  • Lock; to lock your screen orientation

The bottom button:
  • Left and right arrow; to go to the next chapter or the previous chapter

To download a new manga to your collection, you can access your favorite website from the "menu" option. The window is a bit small, but once you successfully picked a manga, you can add the manga to your collection using the "+" button. Once it is saved you can access it through the reading tab, from here on out all manga chapters are downloaded and saved in your iPad. You can download by chapter or the whole manga at a time.

Note that chapters do not update by itself, so you have to update it manually. you can zoom in and out easy, and when the chapter end you have to go to the next or previous chapter with the arrows. Another footnote, to reset a chapter you have already read, you need to use the slider to move the pages back to page 1. Although mangas are downloaded and stored in you iPad, it will not eat you storage by a lot since the pages downloaded are not HD.

The Good:
  • Extensive collection of Manga

  • Easy to read Manga

  • Excellent sorting system

  • Offline Mode

The Bad:
  • Menu bar is too small

  • No chapter tittle

  • Eats up storage

NOTE: apologies for the bad pictures, I currently have limited access to my iPad

Apple gets sapphire window and pressure sensitive display patents granted

Apple, a tech firm best known for its innovations, after introducing a sapphire-based fingerprint sensor on its iPhone 5s, got one of its important patents granted by the USPTO on Thursday, detailing a cutting and processing method for sapphire material. Another patent, applied for a day apart in 2012, was approved along with it, related to pressure-sensitive touch input.

The sapphire manufacturing patent, applied for back in July 2012, details the process of how the Cupertino firm will cut the sapphire material and polish it. The patent also includes the use of lasers for cutting the material into Windows.

"Methods for creating sapphire windows are provided herein. In particular, one embodiment may take the form of a method of manufacturing sapphire windows. The method includes obtaining a polished sapphire wafer and applying decoration to the sapphire wafer. The method also includes cutting the sapphire wafer into discrete windows. In some embodiments, the cutting step comprises laser ablation of the sapphire," states the patent filed under USPTO or United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent might be related to Apples rumoured solar-charging sapphire glass screen, which is said to be incorporated in the Apple iPhone 6 handset.

The second patent approved on Thursday was titled "Gesture and Touch Input Detection through Force Sensing." The patent, also filed back in July 2012, talks about three touch sensitive force sensors that will trigger different functionalities by the device.

The Apple patent details a design concept where pressure sensitive areas are placed around the corners of tablet-like devices to act as secondary input carrier. The patent is aimed at the location and amount of pressure, and we might see this technology make it to the companys iPad tablet.

An example has been given in the patent which states "if the input force is exerted on a top right hand corner of the surface, a first force sensor adjacent the top right corner of the surface may sense a first force value, a second force sensor that may be in a left bottom corner may sense a second force value, and a third force sensor in a left top corner may sense a third value. These three force values may be used to determine a location of a centre of the force or force centroid location."

Russia hacked hundreds of Western Asian companies CrowdStrike

A U.S. cyber-security firm says it has gathered evidence that the Russian government spied on hundreds of American, European and Asian companies, the first time Moscow has been linked to cyber attacks for alleged economic - rather than political - gains.

According to the firm, CrowdStrike, the victims of the previously unreported cyber espionage campaign include energy and technology firms, some of which have lost valuable intellectual property.

CrowdStrike declined to go into detail about those losses or to name any victims, citing confidentiality agreements related to its investigation.

Officials with the Russian Interior Ministry could not be reached for comment early on Wednesday in Moscow.

"These attacks appear to have been motivated by the Russian governments interest in helping its industry maintain competitiveness in key areas of national importance," Dmitri Alperovitch, chief technology officer of CrowdStrike, told Reuters on Tuesday evening.

While cyber-security researchers have in the past said that Chinas government was behind cyber espionage campaigns against various corporations dating back as far as 2005, Alperovitch said this is the first time the Russian government has been linked to cyber intrusions on companies.

He said that CrowdStrike has been following the activities of this Russian group, which it dubbed "Energetic Bear," for two years. The firm believes the Russian government is behind the campaign because of technical indicators, as well as analysis of the targets chosen and the data stolen.

"We are very confident about this," Alperovitch said. Victims include European energy companies, defense contractors, technology companies and government agencies, according to the CrowdStrike report.

Manufacturing and construction firms in the United States, Europe and Middle East as well as U.S. healthcare providers were also cited as targets.

Alperovitch, who is of Russian ethnic origin and now lives in the Washington, D.C., area, is an expert on cyber espionage who rose to prominence while working for McAfee Inc. While there he managed a team of researchers who produced a landmark January 2010 report that described how Chinese hackers had launched an unprecedented series of attacks known as "Operation Aurora" on Google Inc and dozens of other companies.

In 2012, he co-founded CrowdStrike, which collects intelligence about the activities of hacking groups around the world and sells software to thwart such attacks.

He told Reuters that the data his firm has obtained about Energetic Bear suggests that authorities in Moscow have decided to start using cyber espionage to promote Russias national economic interests.

"They are copying the Chinese play book," he said. "Cyber espionage is very lucrative for economic benefit to a nation."
